SEPTEMBER 2018 ANNOUNCEMENTS
BUCKHEAD: The classic French-Vietnamese restaurant Le Colonial is opening a location at Shops Buckhead at the corner of Bolling Way and Buckhead Avenue next spring. Rick Wahlstedt of neighboring Le Bilboquet and Umi Sushi and Himitsu owner Farshid Arshid are partnering to bring the restaurant to the uber high end retail complex. The restaurant will channel the “tropical beauty and French colonial” design of 1920s Saigon to bring diners dishes mixed with southeast Asian influences and French haute cuisine. Le Colonial has longtime locations in Chicago, New York, and San Fransisco.
DOWNTOWN: Nashville-based e Saturn Schuhgr 738017 Damen Blizzard 41;Farbe Hausschuhe Haflinger Wolle Blau Pantoffeln TUp5q8a5nW is opening its first Atlanta restaurant in early 2019. Helen’s is located in the 200 Edgewood student housing complex close to Sweet Auburn Curb Market and Georgia State University. Helen’s hot chicken menu includes breast and leg quarters, wingettes, and tenders in four levels of heat: plain, mild, hot, and hella hot. Chicken is made-to-order and doesn’t drop into the fryer until ordered at the counter. The restaurant’s fried seafood like shrimp, whiting, and catfish is also very popular.
KIRKWOOD: Emma and Sean Schacke are opening Evergreen Butcher + Baker at 2011 Hosea L. Williams in the heart of Kirkwood next summer. The bakery will offer freshly-made croissants, danishes, fruit galettes, cookies, and daily-baked breads such as rye and sourdough on its menu. The butcher side of the shop plans to carry charcuterie, sausages, terrines, hot dogs, and burgers, in addition to a variety of meats like ribeye, brisket, and pork loin. Grab-and-go sandwiches and coffee will be available for purchase in the retail shop.
WEST END: Best End Brewpub plans to open by early 2019 at Lee + White in West End. Much like New Realm Brewing in Poncey-Highland, the 17,500-square-foot brewpub will contain a brewery and a restaurant seating up to 200 people. The restaurant also features a chefs table. Best End joins Monday Night Brewing and Cultured South already open at the complex. The second locations of Wild Heaven Beer and ASW Distillery are slated to open later this year.
OLD FOURTH WARD: Ryan Gravel, the man who conceived of the 33-mile pedestrian loop around Atlanta known as the Beltline, is opening a restaurant called Aftercar. The Beltline-facing restaurant opens next spring in the basement level of the Telephone Factory Lofts on Ralph McGill in the Old Fourth Ward. The philanthropub will help fund Gravel’s nonprofit organization, Generator — a civic-based, public think tank for improving cities and communities through workshops and programming.
NOW OPEN — OAKHURST: Michael Lo and chef George Yu (Taiyo Ramen, Suzy Siu’s Baos, Noona) are replacing their Chinese restaurant Double Dragon in Oakhurst Village with a Korean restaurant and soju bar named Son of a Bear. The new restaurant opens the second week of September.

EDGEWOOD: Muffin koreanische koreanische Version Muffin Version Version Muffin koreanische koreanische Muffin Version Muffin ZFYfqRFAA counter-serve Mexican restaurant called Taqueria el Tesoro is opening on Arkwright Place in the Edgewood neighborhood about a half mile from Coan Park. They’ll offer coffee and espresso along with breakfast tacos and burritos throughout the morning. For lunch, the restaurant will serve tamales, quesadillas, and “other Mexican treats” before closing at 2:30 p.m. Dinner and a bar are eventually planned. El Tesoro is targeting a fall opening.
FAYETTEVILLE: Honeysuckle Gelato is opening a second location in Pinewood Forest; the 234-acre, mixed-use development in the city of Fayetteville south of Atlanta. The shop should open next fall in the new community’s town center. Pinewood Forest is located across from Georgia’s largest movie studio, Pinewood Atlanta.
OLD FOURTH WARD: Chef Mihoko Obunai, formerly of Nexto ramen in the Old Fourth Ward, is opening a broth shop in Irwin Street Market just steps from the BeltLine. Mihoko’s Method Bone Broth should open in late September.
OLD FOURTH WARD: Independent roastery and mobile barista cart company Docent Coffee will open a cafe on Edgewood Avenue in October. It will take over the space currently occupied by cycling-centric Cafe & Velo in what basically amounts to a rebrand and expansion of services and not necessarily a closure, as Eater Atlanta was previously told.
OLD FOURTH WARD: The team behind Downtown’s Atlanta Breakfast Club (ABC) on Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard says their new restaurant ABC Chicken and Waffles will open soon. The restaurant is located in the Freedom Corner building at 340 Auburn Avenue at the corner of Auburn Avenue and Hilliard Street near the King Historic District
PONCEY-HIGHLAND: Joey Ward, the executive chef of Kevin Gillespie’s Gunshow in Glenwood Park, is opening his own restaurant next year in Poncey-Highland. The restaurant will likely be located in the Island Flowers space between the Fedex store and Buffalo Exchange in the same complex as the Plaza Theatre on Ponce de Leon.
OLD FOURTH WARD: Midtown gastropub The Barrelhouse, which closed on 5th Street in June for “summer vacation”, is reopening in the former (some say “cursed”) Cast Iron (Last Word, P’cheen) space on Highland Avenue across from Highland Bakery later this fall. Owner Jim Brooks says he closed the Midtown location after seven years because the lease was up and it was an opportunity to move deeper into town.
NOW OPEN—GRANT PARK: Is Atlanta about to get its first fowling (FOH-ling) alley bar? Pin & Proper, located behind Brazilian coffeehouse and bar Buteco at Beacon in Grant Park, plans to open on August 21 with a game that combines football and bowling and is set up like corn hole. It sounds similar to a game known as “fowling”; where two teams try to be the first to knock down the opponent’s ten bowling pins using a football.
DULUTH: The expansion news for local The Halal Guys franchise owner Moynul Chowdhury keeps on coming. Chowdhury says he’s planning to open a Duluth location in the Kroger shopping plaza at 3455 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near the corner of Peacthree Industrial and Pleasant Hill Road. And, he’s eyeing three other possible locations for The Halal Guys in Buckhead, Battery Atlanta, and Kennesaw.

BUCKHEAD: The Dallas-based Velvet Taco, the “temple to the liberated taco,” is opening in Buckhead Market Place in the same complex as the Whole Foods on West Paces Ferry next spring. Their motto is “tacos without borders.” It alludes to the “liberated” takes on the taco, like the spicy tikka masala, Nashville hot cauliflower, or crawfish and pork jambalaya. While open all day, Velvet Taco’s real target market is the late night crowds. This area of Buckhead has several nearby nightclubs and is home to the concert venue Buckhead Theatre.
SANDY SPRINGS: The Atlanta-based Vietnamese restaurant chain Pho 24 is opening at the new Square One apartments at 6050 Roswell Road NE in Sandy Springs. According to a restaurant representative, Pho 24’s latest location will open on Tuesday, September 25.
BUFORD HIGHWAY: Buford Highway will soon be home to an arcade pub. Atlanta-based Player One Arcade Services is opening Player One Arcade PubKlettverschl��sse Gr Damen Schwarz Avena Hausstiefel 42 Klimasoft Praktische qxIddwAYa somewhere along Buford Highway, just north of the perimeter. Owners Nick Mizgala and Angela Pratt Mizgala haven’t sealed the deal on the property yet, but say they’re close. All will (hopefully) be revealed soon.
NOW OPEN—OLD FOURTH WARD: Margarita bar Guac y Margys is opening this Friday, July 27 at 7 p.m. in Studioplex. Nine different margaritas are listed on the menu like the Premium AF with reposado tequila and Grand Marnier and cocktails such as Nobody Calls it Hotlanta Anymore (did Atlantans ever?); a riff on the classic Southern drink Coke and peanuts with bourbon added. The weekday food menu is on the snack-y side, offering only varying portions of chips paired with salsa, queso, guacamole, and a drunken fondue consisting of queso, chorizo, and tequila. The weekend is when the menu expands to tacos and breakfast bowls
AVONDALE ESTATES: The owner of all-day Greek restaurant Kafenio in College Park (and ParkGrounds in Reynoldstown) is opening a second location in Avondale Estates at the Willis apartment complex on East College Avenue. The 2100-square-foot restaurant will serve diners Mediterranean-style dishes breakfast through dinner. The restaurant includes a bar with wine and beer and a large patio. Kafenio-Avondale should open in early 2019.
ATLANTA: Owner Jen Price is seeking a permanent location for Atlanta Beer Boutique’s bottle shop and tasting room, which will include a small market selling glassware, books, and select food for pairings as well as a fully-equipped kitchen. Price plans to rent out the kitchen to home brewers and those in need of commercial kitchen space. Atlanta Beer Boutique is aiming to open next year.
TECH SQUARE/MIDTOWN: The Collective at Coda announced the first restaurants for the mini food hall located at 771 Spring Street. The first comes from chef Hector Santiago (El Super Pan) who will open El Burro Pollo Kitchen serving “border town-style” burritos, tacos, and ceviches. Ken Yu and Seven Chan (Poke Burri, Lifting Noodles Ramen both at We Suki Suki) plan to open their second Poke Burri at the hall. And, fast-casual grain bowl, soup, and smoothie restaurant Wild Leaf from chef Randy Lewis and David Morse is also set to open at Coda. The mini food hall should debut in Midtown next spring.
NOW OPEN—PONCE CITY MARKET: Local popsicle purveyor King of PopsBerkemann Zehentrenner Damen Rot e 47 Gr rot rprTn5Px is opening a beach bar called O4W Beach Bar in the courtyard of the market on Thursday, July 19. It’s housed inside a shipping container next to the entrance to the rooftop. The bar plans to sell boozy slushies like a blackberry dark and stormy; a cocktail which contains rum and ginger beer. Thursday’s grand opening celebration begins at 12 p.m. and features snacks and drinks such as a piña colada slushie served in cored, whole pineapples.
NOW OPEN—BATTERY ATLANTA: Chef-owner Hector Santiago is opening the second outpost of his Ponce City Market (PCM) Latin sandwich bar El Super Pan at Battery Atlanta (Braves SunTrust Park) in late July. The full-service restaurant and bar is an all-day affair—open breakfast through dinner, seven days a week.
PONCE CITY MARKET: An all-day restaurant called Pancake Social is opening at Ponce City Market this winter. Chef Anne Quatrano (Bacchanalia, Star Provisions, Floataway Cafe, W.H. Stiles Fish Camp) will open the 150-seat breakfast restaurant and coffeehouse with restaurateurs Dan Jacobson (formerly of Chick-fil-A) and Steven Chan (Tin Drum Asian Kitchen), and Revelator director of retail (co-founder of Octane) Tony Riffel. OLD FOURTH WARD: Charleston’s Queen Street Grocery (QSG) is headed to Atlanta. Owner/actor Rob Bouton is opening a sister location of his popular Holy City neighborhood cafe and market in the former Across the Street (ATS) Mexican restaurant and its adjacent market at 668 and 670 Highland Avenue NE on the border of Inman Park and the Old Fourth Ward. Field Day cafe and Everyday market should open in early September.
FAYETTE COUNTY: Craft beer and wine shop Hop City is opening at Fayette County’s new planned community Pinewood Forest. Owner Kraig Torres also plans to open a second outpost of his Alpharetta-based restaurant Barleygarden Kitchen & Craft Bar. Both open in 2019.
TUCKER: Bell Street Burritos is opening a fourth location in Tucker at 4053 Lawrenceville Highway. This latest Bell Street will occupy the former El Tapatio Mexican space. Bell Street has locations in Buckhead on Peachtree Street, Sweet Auburn Curb Market, and at Stove Works in the Old Fourth Ward. No ETA on opening.
KROG STREET MARKET: Pho Nam will open in the former Nature’s Garden Express kiosk across from Fred’s Meat and Bread and Yalla in August. Owner Alex Kinjo (MF Sushi, MF Bar, Anh’s Kitchen) will also (re)open his Vietnamese restaurant Nam in the City Springs complex in Sandy Springs. Nam shuttered in Midtown in 2011. As for Pho Nam, the Krog Street kiosk will include a 12-seat bar and serve pho, vermicelli, spring rolls, and salads.
WESTSIDE PROVISIONS DISTRICT: Tal Baum, owner of Ponce City Market’s Bellina Alimentari, is opening Aziza underneath Marcel sometime next year. The restaurant plans to focus its menu on Israeli and Middle Eastern cuisine. Aziza and its menu pay homage to Baum’s upbringing and her family in Israel.
PONCEY-HIGHLAND: Bellina Alimentari’s Tal Baum is also opening a more casual Israeli restaurant called Rina in the Ford Factory Lofts just beyond Ponce City Market in spring 2019.
WESTSIDE PROVISIONS DISTRICT: The owners of Buckhead Italian restaurant and specialty shop Storico Fresco are opening an yet-named restaurant in the former Little Bacch space next year. It’s food and wine menu will be similar to Storico with a focus on Roman dishes.
NOW OPEN—PONCEY-HIGHLAND: Bazati, a multi-level restaurant, bar, and market, plans to open by this summer next to New Realm Brewing on the Beltline. Bazati includes the Parisian-style restaurant the Brasserie on the bottom floor serving classic French dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a rooftop, open-air bar called Estrella. Its menu is comprised of Latin cocktails and sparkling wine. There is also what appears to be a wine shop named Amphora located in the building. Both opening August 30.
REYNOLDSTOWN: The expansion news just keeps coming for Hodgepodge Coffeehouse. The coffee shop and local art gallery, owned by Krystle Rodriguez on the edge of East Atlanta, is opening an “express” version in Reynoldstown. The shop hopes to open sometime this fall.
ALPHARETTA: Lapeer Seafood Market from the team behind South Main Kitchen and Butcher & Brew will open in Alpharetta City Center in November. The menu will change daily and includes in-season, line-caught fish from around the country. Lapeer will accommodate between 125-140 people. Owner Louis Soon says he’s also planning to open a taco stand called Tocayo and a second Butcher & Brew, which should open in Forsyth County’s Halycon next March.
OLD FOURTH WARD: Get ready for New Zealand reindeer in the Old Fourth Ward. The team behind Bantam Pub in O4W plans to open Big Game at Anthem on Ashley in early fall and serve “sustainable herd” meat. The 4200-square-foot “sportsman club” faces Old Fourth Ward Park at 720 Ralph McGill Boulevard. The hunting and fishing lodge-style restaurant will include bison, elk, and “trophy fish” on its menu.
NOW OPEN—BROOKHAVEN: Alpharetta-based Secreto Southern Kitchen opens Wednesday, July 11 at 3575 Durden Drive in Brookleigh Marketplace. The menu focuses on Southern staples like crab bisque made with lump crab, fried chicken, and a grilled apple brined pork chop. The wine heavy beverage list includes several small producers from California, Oregon, France, Spain, and Italy.

NOW OPEN — DECATUR: A mysterious Instagram post appeared from shuttered Buckhead coffee shop Bar Crema with a photo of an unidentified hand holding a to-go cup in front of the Pinewood in Decatur. The post reads, “Hmmm...” followed by the thinking and winking face emojis. Could the Italian coffee shop be returning in some form or fashion at the Pinewood? Yes.
ALPHARETTA: Earlier this year, chef Meherwan Irani (Chai Pani, Botiwalla) announced plans to Glattleder Dream 170 e Ballerina Carolina Gr 37 Jil 42 Calce 170 014 Donna AX4EP to Alpharetta. The chef confirmed he’s opening his second Botiwalla in the Alpharetta City Center complex some time this fall.
NORTH ATLANTA: Prepare for booze-infused, liquid nitrogen ice cream and coffee treats when Cincinnati-based Buzzed Bull Creamery opens an outpost somewhere in north Atlanta. However, when and where is still TBD. Buzzed Bull’s menu includes 32 flavors paired with (or without) a selection of alcohol.

DOWNTOWN: The iconic and perpetually packed Busy Bee Cafe is opening a second location next year. The new location is located at 111 Trinity Avenue in downtown Atlanta—around the corner from City Hall and the state capitol
BUCKHEAD: Top quality beef jerky is coming to Buckhead. South African restaurant group True Story Brands (10 Degrees South, Yebo Beach Haus, Cape Dutch) is opening a second Biltong Bar in the Shops Buckhead Atlanta this September.
VIRGINIA-HIGHLAND: The Supper Club Restaurant Group is bringing a franchise of guitarist Todd Rundgren’s Tiki Iniki to the space formerly occupied by Illegal Food. Opening this summer.
ATLANTA: Japanese street food outlet OK Yaki ended its collaboration with Sun in My Belly. But, it will pop-up on Thursdays at Ria’s Bluebird in Grant Park. Owner Corban Irby says he’s also looking for a permanent location for OK Yaki.
SUMMERHILL: Sarah O’Brien of Little Tart Bakeshop will open two new restaurants on Georgia Avenue: another Little Tart location and Big Softie, an artisanal soft serve spot.
NOW OPEN — BUCKHEAD/SANDY SPRINGS: The health-conscious—an super instagrammable—restaurant Flower Child is opening at Shops Around Lenox in Buckhead on July 11. A second metro Atlanta location opens this fall at the City Springs development in Sandy Springs. Both openings are the first part of the West Coast restaurant chain’s eastward expansion plan.
BERKELEY PARK: Tuza debuts in October in Westside at 1523 Howell Mill Road in the Berkeley Park neighborhood just south of I-75. The restaurant will serve a variety of tacos and Mexican street fare. A covered patio, full bar, breakfast, brunch, and a dog-friendly dining area are also planned.
NOW OPEN — WEST END: D Cafe and Catering coffee pop-up turned permanent fixture Koinonia Coffee ATL in Westview is expanding to a second location in neighboring West End at Gallery 992 on June 18.
CASTLEBERRY HILL: A new cocktail bar called Parlor is opening this summer at 249 Peters Street in Castleberry Hill. The 800-square-foot bar is owned by Alphonzo Cross of brand development company Quintessential. Cross also owned now shuttered Boxcar Grocers located next door to the forthcoming bar.

NOW OPEN—UNDERWOOD HILLS/SPRINGLAKE: The Savannah-based Zunzi’s Takeout & Catering opens Wednesday, May 30 at 1971 Howell Mill Road. The fast-casual restaurant, located near dive bar Mr. C’sand across from Howell’s Kitchen and Bar, is known for South African style bites with Swiss, Dutch, and Italian influences.
TOCO HILLS: Schuhe Materialien VogueZone009 Metallniet No Rot Blend Heel Flache 39 Damen 6awEYwq7 shop will open in the Toco Hills Shopping Center. The shops will be located in a portion of the old Shoe Center space. The news comes on the heels of the closure of Bagel Palace after 25 years in the center.
SMYRNA/VININGS: A Savi Provisions is opening at the Battery Atlanta in late 2019. This will be the seventh metro Atlanta location. The 4500-square-foot market will be similar to the Pharr Road outpost—which opened in April—and will share space with Jittery Joe’s Coffee. In addition to its deli and spirits shop, Savi plans to deliver grab-and-go items and other prepared foods to locations throughout the Battery.
ARMOUR/PIEDMONT HEIGHTS: SweetWater Brewing Company is adding a restaurant to its brewery on Ottley Drive. Renovations to the existing taproom include a kitchen, a lounge/pub area, extending the patio, and a new four-sided bar which opens to the courtyard. The brewery is unsure when the restaurant will open.
NOW OPEN—GRANT PARK: Firepit Pizza Tavern at Larkin on Memorial in Grant Park is targeting a June opening. The brick oven pizzeria dropped their menu on Facebook saying, “We are excited to share our menu and give everyone a preview of what is yet to come.”
NOW OPEN—OLD FOURTH WARD: Chef Guy Wong’s Miso Ko sushi kiosk in Ponce City Market’s central food hall will open this summer. It will be located across from Bitlong Bar next to the chef’s ramen shop Ton Ton on the first floor of the food hall. The menu plans to feature a variety of fresh seafood like freshwater eel and soft shell crab. Opens September 8.
DOWNTOWN: Sweet Stack Creamery is opening at City Walk Apartments near Georgia State University at 171 Auburn Avenue. The ice cream sandwich shop and dessert bar will open later this year. Customers choose a sandwich base of doughnuts, cookies, or cones, an ice cream flavor, and toppings.
OLD FOURTH WARD: The Florida-based street food stall-style restaurant Hawkers Asian Street Fare plans to open at Studioplex along the Beltline in the Old Fourth Ward this fall. The full-service restaurant is based on “hawkers” or Asian street food stalls and will offer dishes like Korean twice fried wings, Sichuan wontons, and steamed baos. Hawkers’ menu also includes soups, salads, noodles, and rice dishes. A large, Beltline-facing patio is planned for the restaurant.
NOW OPEN—BUCKHEAD: Banh mi and noodle restaurant Bún Mì will open on May 23 in south Buckhead’s Aramore Condos at 2277 Peachtree Road on the edge of the Peachtree Hills neighborhood. The fast casual restaurant near Restaurant Eugene and Imperial Fez plans on catering to area workers and residents looking for a quick bite during the day.
ANSLEY PARK/MORNINGSIDE: Kong’s Kitchen, a Chinese take-out and delivery-only restaurant, is opening at 1584 Piedmont Road next door to Smith’s Olde Bar between the Ansley Park and Morningside neighborhoods in June.
PONCEY-HIGHLAND: The Chicago deep-dish pizza chain Gino’s East will be located in the former Rize Artisan Pizza space at 675 North Highland Avenue across from Sweet Auburn BBQ and Soul Vegetarian. Gino’s made the announcement on Facebook stating, “Gino’s East is getting #DeepAF in Atlanta this summer.”
BUCKHEAD: The Castellucci Hospitality Group is opening a Buckhead outpost of their Decatur-based Spanish tapas restaurant Iberian Pig. The 4500-square-foot restaurant, due to open this winter, is currently under construction at the 22-story Hanover Buckhead Village on Roswell Road.
WEST END: Boggs Social & Supply—a bar with a permanent food truck from Shane Pringle of the Earl and Tim Song of Gaja Korean in East Atlanta—hopes to open at 1310 White Street SW across the way from Lean Draft House. The bar will include a patio and eventually a rotating array of food trucks. No opening date has been provided.

NOW OPEN — BUCKHEAD: A new rooftop bar and restaurant called FLY Chelsea EU Damen 37 London Boots Violett Salv Purple 6q6wgUrpn is opening in Buckhead at the Savi Provisions market on Pharr Road. No opening date has been released, but sources close to the restaurant say it could open in late May or early June of 2018.
BUCKHEAD: Former Empire State South executive chef Joshua Hopkins is on board as the executive chef for forthcoming northern Italian restaurant Adalina located in the former River Room spot on Northside Parkway.
MIDTOWN: Sugar Factory American Brasserie is opening in the former Mi Cocina space at 1080 Peachtree Street in Midtown in 2019. This is the first Georgia location. The restaurant offers pancakes, crepes, salads (including the garbage salad), pizza, and burgers. Expect desserts (sugar shock) like a 12-person sundae with 24 scoops of ice cream and every topping known to humankind called King Kong or an Oreo shake with cookie crumbles, chocolate chips, vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, and caramel.
NOW OPEN— GRANT PARK: Octavio Aguirre, owners of El Mexicano on Moreland Avenue, anticipate a summer 2018 opening of their second restaurant Patria Cocina. This new Mexican restaurant (which plans to serve brunch, too) will be located at the forthcoming Beacon complex at 1039 Grant Street on the edge of Grant Park and Peoplestown. Patria Cocina plans to serve “authentic Mexican food with a modern touch.” Opening July 9.
SANDY SPRINGS: Antico pizza owner Giovanni di Palma has his sights set on the former 4 Seasons Pottery location near Hammond and Roswell roads in Sandy Springs. If the city approves di Palma’s variance on the property, the new Antico outpost will include Vespa-style food carts and an indoor/outdoor beer and wine bar. di Palma says he also plans to open a food cart village at his Little Italia in Westside across from the original Antico. Opening 2018.
METRO ATLANTA: Chai Pani and Botiwalla chef-owner Meherwan Irani is expanding his Indian street food mini-empire. Irani has confirmed he is opening three more metro Atlanta Botiwalla locations in the next year, and as many as eight to ten more locations over the next five years throughout the southeast. Irani’s future plans could include as many as 50 Botiwallas.
SANDY SPRINGS: A second location of pastry, coffee, and sandwich spot Café Vendôme, the grain bowl and toast-forward Flower Child, Vietnamese restaurant Nam Kitchen (from owner of MF Sushi), and the Select, serving “comfort food with a slight French accent” will open at mixed-used development City Springs this summer.
WESTSIDE: Atlanta Hard Cider Co. hopes to break ground along Marietta Boulevard in Westside this summer. The cidery will include a large tasting room with 40 taps, an outdoor patio with food trucks and live music, and private events space. It’s also steps from the future Westside-Northside portion of the Beltline trail. No word as to when they will officially open.
NOW OPEN—MIDTOWN: Publico Kitchen & Tap is set to open very soon on Crescent Avenue next door to Lure. This is the second location of the Columbia, South Carolina-based restaurant which categorizes its menu as Latin-Asian and includes everything from tacos to bánh mì to burritos to ramen.
EAST ATLANTA: Sabbath Brewing is slated to open in the former East Atlanta Barbell Club by Halloween. Few details (like the name of the owner, who is choosing to remain anonymous) have been released; although, Sabbath may include a coffee and espresso bar. The brewery plans to focus on IPAs, farmhouse ales, and sour beers.
ATLANTA: Former Watershed chef Zeb Stevenson is planning a new restaurant with his former bosses (former Watershed owners) Emily Sailers and Ross Jones. Few details are available but Stevenson promises to divulge them soon as plans and a location become more certain.
NOW OPEN—WESTSIDE: Greater Good BBQ is opening a Westside spot. This is the fourth location of Atlanta-based barbecue chain. It will open later this year at 1021 Howell Mill Road next door to La Fonda (just up from Northside Tavern.)
PONCEY-HIGHLAND: Charleston-based Root Baking Co., owned by the husband and wife team of Chris Wilkins and Nicole Lewis, is moving to Atlanta this summer and has officially confirmed Ponce City Market (PCM) as its headquarters. The shop will also include a cafe.
NOW OPEN - BUCKHEAD: Savi Provisions is opening a fifth location on Pharr Road in Buckhead in April— and this spot features a drive-thru serving Jittery Joe’s coffee.
MIDTOWN/ATLANTIC STATION: The Atlanta-based Vietnamese restaurant chain Pho 24 is coming to Atlantic Station in October. It will replace fast casual seafood spot Boneheads Grill which is apparently closing by the end of May.
March 2018 Announcements
GRANT PARK: One Eared Stag and Mary Hoopa’s House of Fried Chicken & Oysters chef Robert Phalen is opening a “European-inspired bistro” named Woodward and Park adjacent to Full Commission at Larkin on Memorial in Grant Park. Opening fall 2018.
NOW OPEN—ROSWELL: The Whiskey Project will be located at 45 Oak Street in the former Oak Street Cafe space. While there will be food, like jalapeño polenta cakes, pickled beet salad, or pan-roasted salmon, it’s the bar that’s the star here. Whiskey Project plans to offer 25 cocktails and reportedly an overwhelming amount of whiskey— close to 1000 types. Opening in early May.
PONCEY-HIGHLAND: Howard and Anita Hsu, the brother and sister team behind Sweet Auburn BBQ, plan to open Lazy Betty with their brother chef Ronald Hsu. The tasting menu-only restaurant is named for their mother and will be located in the current Soul Vegetarian No. 2 space in Poncey-Highland. Opening fall 2018.
NOW OPEN—ROSWELL: Roswell’s Real Fix Pizzeria will shutter temporarily to rebrand its space and menu into a second outpost of its Canton sister restaurant Local on North. The restaurant should reopen prior to the Roswell Alive After Five evening on April 19.
NOW OPEN—BUCKHEAD: Roswell’s Little Alley Steak will open a second outpost in Buckhead’s One Alliance Center on Lenox Road. The menu won’t stray from that of the original Roswell location. Expect the standard surf and turf fare, charcuterie, and a bourbon collection said to total 365 bottles. Opening in May.
NORTH ATLANTA: The group behind Las Vegas-based 38 Mehrfarbig Snake Damen Pantoffeln ALDO 30 Vergemoli F0Ypnwq, the restaurant from the late celebrity chef Kerry Simon, is apparently eyeing Atlanta for its next location. While the exact location hasn’t been disclosed, Eleven Hospitality Group is looking at the north Atlanta area. Expect a summer opening.
NOW OPEN—OLD FOURTH WARD: Kristin and Missy Koefed of 18.21 Bitters and forthcoming cocktail lounge and cafe the James Room are opening Drafts and Dogs in the former Simply Seoul space at Ponce City Market. A short and sweet menu of four cocktails like a Hemingway daiquiri or frozen painkiller will accompany the fancy hot dogs (such as one topped with Old Fourth Distillery vodka-caramelized Vidalia onions and peach compote.) Opening May 15.
OLD FOURTH WARD: Chef Kevin Gillespie is opening Cold Beer on the Beltline; the beverage-focused sister to his southern dim sum restaurant Gunshow. It will include three patios, a large dining room and bar, shared plates, and plenty of beer and cocktails. Opening mid-2019.
OLD FOURTH WARD: Hazel Jane’s Wine & Coffee will open next door to chef Kevin Gillespie’s Cold Beer along the Beltline. The all-day cafe and wine bar from Birmingham-based Revelator Coffee will feature a central bar, full-service kitchen, Beltline-facing patio, and a small bottle shop. Opening mid-2019.
OLD FOURTH WARD: It’s definite. The third Atlanta outpost of Shake Shack is coming to the Beltline between Edgewood and Dekalb Avenues. Neighbors will include chef Kevin Gillespie’s Cold Beer and Hazel Jane’s Wine & Coffee. Opening mid-2019.
SUMMERHILL: Thai pop-up Talat Market chefs Parnass Lim Savang and Rod Lassiter are opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant. The restaurant will be located at 112 Ormond Street in the Summerhill neighborhood inside an old Asian market. It’s expected to open in early 2019.
NOW OPEN—ALPHARETTA: Chefs and partners Shaun Doty and Lance Gunmere are converting their southern diner Bantam + Biddy into ‘Georgia style’ ‘cue restaurant King Barbecue. The pair hope to (re)launch by early April.
NOW OPEN—CHAMBLEE: The Alden from chef Jared Hucks of fine dining supper club Dogwood table will open this spring serving American and Southern classics using in-season ingredients. The restaurant is located at Parkview on Peachtree. Its name means “old friend” in Old English.
NOW OPEN—ROSWELL: Deep Roots Wine Market & Tasting Room will open at 1055 Canton Street in historic Roswell this May. The wine market features wines from California and a tasting room that acts as a self-guided (self-serve) tour of Napa Valley’s wineries using pre-paid swipe cards to sample up to 24 wines.
NOW OPEN—JOHNS CREEK: Hen Mother Cookhouse will open this May in the former Farmhouse Coffee and Cafe space in Johns Creek. The new OTP breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot will be located next door to Taylor Brooks Hair Salon in the same complex as Bonefish Grill.
WESTVIEW: My Potato Factory, owned and operated by chef Tonya Morris, closed its downtown Atlanta location and will reopen at 1521 Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard SW. The restaurant will serve fully-loaded baked potatoes with a variety of toppings, according to its website. This includes a potato topped with shrimp gumbo and chicken sausage. Opening in March or April.
OLD FOURTH WARD: The all-day eatery and lounge The James Room will open in the new SPX Alley complex along the Edgewood portion of the Beltline. It will serve coffee, baked goods, and pastries in the morning and lunch and dinner later in the day.
February 2018 Announcements
NOW OPEN — THE BATTERY ATLANTA: Punch Bowl Social, the restaurant, gaming center, and arcade, will open its first southeastern location on Saturday, March 24. The restaurant portion will include a menu of dishes from Top Chef judge Hugh Acheson. Expect games such as ping pong, shuffleboard, skee ball, bowling, bocce ball, a classic arcade, and karaoke rooms to also be offered.
FAYETTE COUNTY: Chef Tanya Jimenez and her husband and fellow chef Michael Le will open Braise at Pinewood Forest. The menu will mix European, New American, and Asian influences. Jimenez will lead the kitchen while Le runs the day-to-day operations. Opening 2019.
OLD FOURTH WARD: 04W Pizza’s grandma pie will come home to the Old Fourth Ward when Nina & Rafi opens at SPX Alley along the Edgewood portion of Beltline trail. In addition to pizza, the restaurant plans on serving Italian snacks, sandwiches, salads, and pasta (including vegan and gluten-free options). Expect to open mid-summer.

NOW OPEN—CABBAGETOWN: A restaurant called Mouth of the South is opening on Carroll Street. The menu will include a rotating vegetable plate and salads, porchetta, meatball, and pastrami sandwiches as well as carnitas and chorizo tacos and tortas.
NOW OPEN - EAST ATLANTA VILLAGE: Blu Cantina, formerly located in Castleberry Hill, is slated to reopen in the Tomatillos space in April. Owner Corrina Martinez is planning a family-friendly burrito, taco, and empanada restaurant that will transition into an adults-only, late-night spot for the post-dinner crowd seeking cocktails and after hours bites.
NOW OPEN — PONCE CITY MARKET: Ponce City Market’s iconic tower will soon be home to RFD Social. The rooftop lobby and bar located on the market’s 10th floor called The Parlour and a private events venue on the 11th floor named The Roebuck Room are expected to open in March.

MIDTOWN: Chicken and gyro purveyor The Halal Guys will open their next Atlanta location in the Modera Midtown complex on 8th Street in September.
INMAN PARK: Victory Sandwich Shop announced it will be opening its latest restaurant named LLoyd’s at 900 Dekalb Avenue between Krog and Elizabeth Streets. The menu will skew more diner than dive bar and offer simple comfort fare such as French dips and burgers as well as prime rib and fried chicken nights. Expected to open this summer.
WESTSIDE: Steady Hand Beer is still expected to open this spring along Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard. The brewery includes a 30-barrel brewhouse, a stage for live music, a taproom with 15 to 20 taps, a private events area, and space for food trucks.
REYNOLDSTOWN: Chef Richard Tang of Char Korean Bar & Grill in Inman Park has partnered with former Ba Bellies chef Mike Yang to open an Asian seafood spot in the Madison Yards development in 2019.
